Frequently Asked Questions

 The Cooking Set

What is The Little Method Kids Cooking Set?

The Little Method Kids Cooking Set is a Montessori-inspired collection of real, child-sized kitchen tools and visual recipe cards, designed on the Gold Coast, Australia. It helps children aged 3 and over take part in everyday food preparation with an adult — from measuring and mixing to mashing and preparing simple recipes.

What’s included in the cooking set?

The set includes:

  •  a stainless-steel bowl with a non-slip silicone base
  •  a wooden measuring cup
  •  three colour-coded silicone measuring spoons
  •  a wooden whisk
  •  a wooden masher
  • a non-slip silicone mat
  • a beechwood chopping board
  • two child-friendly wooden knives
  • 13 illustrated recipe cards with a cotton storage pouch.

What age is The Little Method suitable for?

The Little Method Kids Cooking Set is designed for ages 3 and over. Children develop kitchen skills at different rates, so choose tasks that suit your child’s abilities and always supervise them during food preparation.

Are these real kitchen tools or pretend-play toys?

They are real kitchen tools, sized for children rather than pretend-play accessories. The set is intended for practical food preparation with an adult, not unsupervised play. Adult supervision is required.

What makes The Little Method different from other kids’ cooking sets?

The Little Method combines real, child-sized kitchen tools with simple, kid-friendly recipes designed for little hands.

Our visual recipe cards use real step-by-step photographs, making them easy for children to follow, even before they can read. Each recipe uses everyday ingredients, with no refined sugar, and colour-coded measuring spoons that match the recipe instructions.

No plastic tools or unnecessary extras — just thoughtfully chosen, practical kitchen tools children will actually use to cook, learn and build confidence.

Can my child use the set independently?

Children can take the lead on age-appropriate steps, such as adding ingredients, mixing or mashing, but an adult should remain present and supervise.

Tasks involving heat, sharp adult knives, appliances or other hazards are for grown-ups.

Is the set suitable for a child who has never cooked before?

Yes. Start with simple tasks such as transferring ingredients into a bowl, stirring or using the masher. The recipe cards break activities into smaller steps, so children can build confidence at their own pace.

 Recipes and Learning

How do the visual recipe cards work?

The cards pair ingredients and tools with real photographs and simple, step-by-step directions. They are designed to help children see what happens next and join in with an adult, rather than relying on written instructions alone.

Can children who cannot read follow the recipes?

Pre-readers can use the pictures to recognise ingredients, tools and stages of a recipe. A grown-up still needs to guide the activity, read any instructions and handle steps that are not appropriate for children.

What are the colour-coded measuring spoons for?

The three silicone spoons use different colours to help children recognise measurements during cooking: yellow for one tablespoon, green for one teaspoon and blue for half a teaspoon. The colour cues also appear in the recipe system, making it easier for little hands to find the right tool.

Do the recipes contain refined sugar?

The Little Method recipes are developed around everyday ingredients without added refined sugar. Always check the ingredients you choose at home, including packaged foods, to make sure they suit your family’s needs.

Are the recipes suitable for picky eaters?

The recipes offer low-pressure opportunities to look at, touch, smell and prepare different foods. Cooking together may encourage curiosity, but it does not guarantee a child will taste or enjoy a new ingredient. Let children explore at their own pace.
